A quick thought on a quote that got my attention this week:

If you cannot write well, you cannot think well; if you cannot think well, others will do your thinking for you.

This is often attributed to Oscar Wilde, although I think that’s probably a misattribution.

But I do think the sentiment is relevant. For me it’s not even about writing well, for me writing (even badly) forces me to think. At least for me my brain requires regular exercise, that cannot be outsourced.

Everyone is falling over them selves to ‘hack their productivity’ by having the likes of ChatGPT write for them. Where do we draw the line between having these tools make writing easier, and having them make thinking easier?
